We landed in Kotzebue at 7:30 A.M. GMT (11:30 A.M. EST) Sunday morning after traveling 19 hours on 4 airplanes from Tampa to Chicago to Seattle to Anchorage to Kotzebue. What a long and tiring trip, but we thank the Lord for a safe flight to the North Artic to begin our 2nd mission trip to the Eskimos. Pastor Matt Hoke and his wife, Tammy, met us at the airport to take us to First Baptist Church Kotzebue. We loaded our luggage, including 13 tubs of groceries we had Alaska Missions deliver to us at the Anchorage Airport. Thanks to Brenda Crim for coordinating shopping and delivery, and for the baggage clerk at the airport who was a God-send.
When we arrived at the church we had a brief devotion and orientation by Pastor Rickey & Pastor Matt. We freshened up before attending Sunday School and Worship at FBC Kotzebue, followed by a Pot Luck Dinner with the church family. We then set up air mattresses and cots in the downstairs classrooms of the church where we will sleep and prepare and eat our meals.
The rest of the day was spent resting, unpacking and walking around Kotzebue. We talked with several people during our walks, inviting them to come to various events during the week. We also shared the gospel and pray with some. We are excited about what God is doing in Kotzebue and the opportunities we will have to be on mission with Him.
